Leg 29 Corpus Christi – Alice (Feb 25): 82 km, elevation 132 m. Total distance 2871 km.

Heading out of Corpus Christi today we hit some major oil indursty. The first 20 km was endless lines of oil plants disgorging smoke. Was like moving through a dystopic movie landscape, feeling what I guess Frodo and Sam felt while entering Mordor…

Life arose on our planet some 3.5 billion years ago and we have evolved from simple RNA based life forms to single cell prokaryotes to eukaryote more and more complex organisms that somewhere down the line became selfaware, up until some 100.000 years ago when our species, Homo Sapiens as we humbly call ourselves (the thinking man) evolved in Eastern Africa. From then our species have been an unprecedented ecological catastrophy wiping out the majority of all great mammals in every habitat we have ever invaded. So, in a way I guess it’s only logical that we destroy our beautiful home planet and wipe out ourselves as well…

As you may have guessed, passing through this part did not lift our spirits. Luckily, after leaving Mordor, we passed through some short distance of wet land and a lot of farming areas. Absolutely amazing how huge those fields are. Sometimes we could not see the end of

them, they just kept on until the curvature of the earth replaced the fields with sky…

Now spending the night at a sloppy motel in Alice, nope spirit is still a little low. Longing for the road tomorrow…
