Leg 57 Oceanside – Laguna Beach (Apr 7): 58 km, climb 392 m. Total distance 5843 km.

Short ride north, glad it wasn’t all that long when my thighs didn’t really have that normal punch… When heading north from Oceanside you really don’t have that many choices; either you go on the freeway (that you really are not supposed to) or you go on the roads on the Pendleton Marinbase (that you absolutely cannot do), so we choose the freeway for the first 15 km (I prefer getting pulled over by the police to getting chased by the marines). No adverse encounters, and after that we rode on biketrails (some on Pendleton’s base camp where we found out we actually could ride) most of the way to Laguna beach -very nice. Riding in Laguna Beach was interesting, had the steepest hill we’ve (tried to) climb during the whole adventure – I didn’t make it. Actually made me think of San Francisco with its Russian Hill…

Now resting in our quaint hotel (The Tides – Laguna Beach) after some swimming in their surprisingly good pool and an outstanding dinner at Reunion Kitchen + Drink (Laguna Beach). Tomorrow the shortest ride on the entire trip up to Long Beach.

Beautiful trees…

…during our morning break

There are scary signs and there are very scary signs…

Kick ass roads (only for bikes – the old high way)

Very nice scenery

Only in Californa – surfboard rack for the bike

Fuck me! This one was so steep I couldn’t bike it…

… very steep…
