Leg 23 (Feb 17): Lake Charles – Port Arthur, 123 km, elevation 161 m. Total distance 2331 km.

Fifth concecutive day of biking. Exiting Louisiana through some nice swamp regions. Generally nice road condition. Crossing Sabine river and entering Texas, our fifth state during our journey. Some yard dogs chasing us going through some rural areas, starting to get the hang of how to handle them.

Also today turned out to be more adventureous than planned. After a late lunch in Orange we had to pass the 2600 m long and 75 m high Rainbow bridge to enter Bridge City and then Port Arthur. The Bridge buildt in 1936 only had two lanes and a half meter (!) wide bike lane and the railing didn’t even reach my waist. Fuck me! In heavy traffic and rather hard wind it was terrifying passing even though we walked across. And I don’t even have a problem with heights! If you’re planning on biking into Port Arthur do not take the western entrance!

Bikes getting a well deserved shower and cleaning after job well done. Now two nights in Port Arthur with resting day tomorrow. Nice!
