Leg 20 (Feb 14): Gray – Morgan City

Leg 20 (Feb 14): Gray – Morgan City, 51 km, elevation 81 m. Total distance 1959 km.

What a day! We were guided through awesome roads, some through suburban areas (not so wealthy) with very little traffic butmainly through the swamp land. Got a fealing of being back in the Everglades region again. Saw so many terrapins (fresh water turtles). Absolutely amazed how skittish they are. They don’t care at all about the cars, but when we get within 20 m riding the bikes the jump right into the water (thus no pics of them today…). A lot of birds of various species and also a kapybara (exciting!!!).

Unfortunately there was roadwork on a bridge some 10 km before Morgan City so we had to take a detour out on the heavily trafficated highway 90 with a strong sidewind (from left of course!) when passing a long high bridge… Can’t really blame ms. Google Maps for that.
