Leg 9, 30 Jan: Steinhatchee – Perry, 65 km, elevation 80 m. Total distance 998 km.
Woke up in Steinhatchee to comfortable 1C (34F), at least not frost in the grass and ice on the road… Had the best breakfast this far since we arrived in the US @Bridge End Cafe served by the very nice Dana. Awesome oatmeal in huge bowls and finished off with a great pancake.
Blessed with a 6-7 m/s headwind today, glad we only had a short ride today. The wind really chilling us down and sucking every ounce of energy. Average speed of 15 km/h today compared normally 21.
The GPS took us down some awesome small roads (se pics!) as well as Beach drive next to Big Bend Tide Swamp. I must say I am surprised how considerate the drivers are here! I’m so glad to experience that behaviour after being in American Samoa where it was more or less life threatening to be out on the roads… Unfortunately todays roads were heavily contaminated with trash. Sad people don’t take care of this beautiful nature.
Had our first dog encounter today. Two medium sized shitheads managed to crawl under the fence and started chasing us, but a sudden stop and loud shouting made them freeze. Felt good!
Include some pics of houses. Not quite built as Swedish homes. No problem understanding flooding problems in the region from the design.
