Leg 39 Van Horn – Fabens (Mar 11): 145 km, climb 588 m. Total distance 4013 km.
Chilly morning (6C/42F), luckily we had a 162 m vertical climb to warm us up to begin with. Long ride today along the interstate 10 under excellent conditions. Wide bike lane, smoothe surface and mostly tail wind. Fabens is located 1102 meters (3615 feet) above sea level so even though we had some nice climbs we had a total descent of almost a hundred meters – very nice with tax ”refund” after all previous climbing!
Stoped for an early lunch in Sierra Blanca (you have to grab the opportunity!) at Delfina’s – best chicken Fajitas I’ve ever had. Some hidden treasures in the Fajita to make sure a good sweat broke out!
The closer to El Paso we’re getting, the more the landscape is shifting from prarie to desert. People we meet tells us it’s only getting more beautiful the more west we head…
Feeling remarkably fresh after the long ride. Soon time to catch a ride to Cattleman’s Steakhouse up in the adjacent mountain…
