Leg 10, Steinhatchee – Carabelle, 129 km, elevation 120 m. Total distance 1127 km.

Woke up to the chilliest morning this far, -1C (30F). Frost in the grass and ice on car windows the first hour on the road. Amazing! Today we had a 3-4 m/s tail wind, that felt so good after several days of strong head wind. Some 30 km outside Perry we ran into a fellow crazy being, Joe, who was biking with his dog from the west coast to the east coast. Was their fifth ride along the southern tier. Respect! Looked so nice when the dog jumped up on the trolley and they took off… He recommended us to join the ”crazy guy on a bike” group. By the name it feels like my kind of group!

Three hours down the road the sun started to warm us up (nice!), and honestly this was the best bike ride this far. Funny, tonight we are staying at a golf resort and neither of us have ever played golf…

Feels unreal that we have now finished the first fifth of the trip. This far absolutely fantastic! Painful (still rubbing my chafers raw everyday agains the saddle – almost healed now!), freezing, strainful and hungry most of the time. Those feelings balanced by the feeling of the wind and rain on our faces, the scents, the texture of the air. An always varying, but always present, wildlife. And not least the feeling of accomplishment!

Layers of everyday routins are stripped off and life is scaled down to a few basic needs. Constantly being bombarded with new impression via all sences. Life lived at the fullest!
